Park+ as a vehicle database and discovery platform

Park+ as a vehicle database and discovery platform

Description
How Park+ evolved as a discovery platform for car owners
Park+ is a one-stop platform for car owners that is focused on improving a user’s everyday car experience by leveraging automation in areas that were so far manual and tedious. When Park+ was first launched, the goal was to make it easier for travellers to save time when searching for parking spaces at different spots in the country. But as we connected with our users, we identified the need to expand our horizon to cater to other car-related discovery needs like Vehicle info, RTO centres (Regional Transportation Office), PUCC centres (Pollution Under Control Certificate), State-wise fuel price and Traffic fines. Let me start with a few live links of my work.

App Links

Park+ is rated 4.6 on Google Playstore and rated 4.1 on App Store at the time of publishing this portfolio. The following flow is live in the android version. The iOS version for this feature is under development.

Critical User Journey

As a person seeking information about my vehicle, I want to easily discern basic info, important dates and alerts related to the vehicle using just the VRN (Vehicle Registration Number)

The Solution

I looked at the information available for a vehicle in our database and talked to the users to find out why they were searching for in any vehicle and what information were they looking for.

As we had already launched 2 mini versions of this feature and I wanted a rich feedback on the previous versions, I decided to do a structured interview with our users for which I had prepared a set of questions with both open and close ended questions.

Set of questions

Here is what the users had to say:

“I wanted to see the owner name.”
“I wanted to check the ownership of the second hand-car that I am planning to buy.”
“I came to recharge my FASTag. ”
“I wanted to check my insurance expiry date and renew the same.”
“My pollution got expired. Came to this screen to find nearby PUCC centres.”
“I wanted to know my FASTag balance.”
“I saw a car in my society parking which I really like, and wanted to check the vehicle specs.”
“I wanted to know my chassis number.”

After talking to users and collecting data, we designed the system in a way wherein we had defined logics based on the assumption that some of the data is not available or some condition does not hold true. For eg. If Insurance is not expiring —> Check FASTag balance —> Low —> Show recharge card

The full list of logics is present in the following document
Search vehicle logic

After defining the extensive logics, my goal was to give structure to this huge pool of information in a way that would cater to all the use-cases defined in the above document. To start with, I created to rough sketch that catered to all the use-cases and conditions, which I later converted to lo-fi wireframes and final prototype for one of the use-cases.

I transformed the structure into lo-fi wireframe and made sure that critical information and alerts should be visible in the first fold. I wanted this screen to be an continuous scroll for any user coming on this page to have a feeling that Park+ have all the data related to a vehicle. Also, ensuring that this data is easy to consume by avoiding clutter with the use of negative space in an appropriate manner.

The use-case which I designed for presentation purposes

Use case 1
Insurance
Fastag
Challan

Actions
Yes, Balance - Yes & Low
Challan
Yes - Strong CTA for renewing insurance
Recharge FASTag with focus on low balance, challan

Feel free to play with the prototype 😃. Don’t miss out on interacting with the feedback flow which I had designed to collect data in case the user is not able to find the information he/she was looking for.

Next steps

  • Merge users’ owned vehicles data into central vehicle database to make sure user’s have a single view where they can take actions on their vehicles as well as search other vehicles from our database (Obviously we have masked the personal identifiable data)
  • Enable the users to set alerts and reminders for all important dates linked to their vehicle like insurance renewals, pollution expiry & service reminders
  • Allow car dealerships and service centres to send customized push notifications to targeted users regrading new offers, service discounts and car health check camps
